A downloadable IMERSIVE SIM

UAS is an immersive sim where you, the player, work your way through life by BLOOD. UAS is heavily inspired by Cruelty squad and in a sense, a case study in which I attempt to learn more about game design and to play around with an art style that I enjoy dearly. I hope you have as much fun playting as I did making this project. Any and all feedback is appreciated. 

UAS is my Spiritual Successor to PORTLAND: 2024, my previous submission to last years LSD Jam. I believe this prject fits into this jam with its art style and odd / interesting locations. I enjoy comparing these two projects too see how much I have improved in a single year alone. Please take a look at PORTLAND:2024 if youre interested on my page.

Level 2 is currenlty planned for development over the coming weeks which will include new content. (Going to do 7DRL jam as a pallette cleanser first)

Hi bro I loooove your game, the graphism are incredible.
I think you should add a setting for sensitivity of mouse bc sometimes it's complicated to play because of the sensitivity.
I will try to put the game on Speedrun.com if some people want to speedrun the first level and in the future the entire game

Im liking a lot about the game and i want to give some suggestions: it needs options for mouse look sensitivity and control binding, those are fundamental for accessibility. also cant go wrong with a fov option. You need to figure out how to make sound play in stereo/3d, its important to know where enemies are without looking. The shotgun firing 5 pellets in such a wide spread is just bad, ether make it like 15 pellets and/or tighten the spread. You also need to figure out how to make the grenade not collide with the player, at least on its first frames of spawning

yooooooooo this goes hard! Loving the Cruelty Squad influence

huh.

Let's start with the positives.
It's excellent at nailing down a Cruelty Squad-esc style that's still unique, the graphics and architecture is very reminiscent but still that little bit different from its inspiration.
Its music, while not going hand in hand with the style, is still quite the bop.
It's mostly bugless and it's quite polished in its gameplay elements.

I liked the intro, but then the menu was a little bit rudimentary, which is fine since this is still early.

Now, unfortunately: 
What immediately stood out to me (other than the lack of pre-instancing) was the weirdly weak gunplay; the pistol not feeling punchy, the Uzi being borderline unusable due to recoil, the SPAS requiring being precise (which is not how shotguns are balanced), and grenades can't be thrown.

This is exacerbated by the high (and seemingly unchangeable) sensitivity and the requirement of absolute precision (which may be a Cruelty Squad thing).

The AI also bugs out at doorways, meaning that you always have to trade health...or snipe.

But the most fundamental weakness is the misunderstanding of what an Immersive sim (or actually IMERSIVE SIM) is.
An Immersive Sim isn't just having two doors to the same building, or some windows; it's having a glass roof, a breakable wall, a tunnel, and the two doors and windows.
An Immersive Sim is capitalized on player choice, it's named by the sentiment "Hey can't I just do this?" and letting the player do that.
I don't feel free here, I feel like I can snipe some of the people outside, head through doors and shoot people through windows when I can.

And look, none of what I just said are "bad game" things, but they are "bad Immersive Sim game" things.

Overall
It's pretty good, it does a lot of things right, I'm certainly excited for where it goes, but it's missing what it's aiming for.

I honestly think they just put "Immersive Sim" because that's what people call Cruelty squad. Imo Crueltylikes or Gorbinolikes would be a better fit.

Yeah def excited. I am interested in seeing that art style in a bit more of a grounded world. Seems a bit more "serious / realistic" from what Ive seen which is a cool change of pace

This project is so awesome, you should def keep working on this and turn it into a full and complete experience. Keep making games, I can't wait to see what you add to this project and other games you make in the future.

U.A.S. is a sick experience from its gameplay, its music, to its visuals. You can tell that passion was put into this project. I'd highly recommend giving it a playthrough!

LMAO the bug that causes all the meat to still exist after a level change is killing me. I think this is the current record. I think maybe adding some way to build speed will make speed running this way more interesting

This game does a fantastic job at making the player feel in control of their movement. The lean really sells the motion and the guns’ unique recoil patterns make each one feel viable in their own ranges.

On top of that, the music compliments the art style so well! This is very much a trippy game, but at its core, its just a solid experience overall. I found myself making a lot of decisions that were so intuitively built in like switching between main weapons and only pressing 1 to switch to pistol.


Knocked this one out of the park and looking forward to level 2!

The big one I came across was when you die from an enemy and hit the main menu button the mouse cursor does not unlock and the game has to be closed with alt+f4. Also on the game over screen, the time continues running and is overlayed ontop the dead text. I found a couple of spots of zfighting as well, but don't to spam this comment section too much with bug report media. Do you have an email/discord/something else I can message?
